Schrödinger's Chart of Pop Music
In response to an Australian interviewer, I created this graph to demonstrate why Pere Ubu, among others, represents the Mainstream in pop culture and performers such as Lady Gaga, for example, can be described as many things but not Mainstream. Experimental, avant-garde, alternative, indie, incomprehensible, underground - all would apply. Simply not 'Mainstream.'
